Travel to Greece. LAKE OF ORESTIAD

    Lake Orestiada - a living monument of history. According to scientists, it was formed about 10 million years ago, so a visit to it can be called a journey into the past. Its name was received in honor of mountain nymphs orestiad, living on the coastal hills.

    The lake has another name - Castor: according to legend, the son of Zeus the Thunderer, Castor, every day looked in the mirror of the watery surface. On the peninsula, far reaching the water surface, the Greek city of Kastoria is located, which lovers of natural furs from around the world know.

   Despite its modest size (the area of ​​the lake's mirror is about 28 km2, and the depth does not exceed 10 m), it hosts a variety of fish such as crucian carp, perch and carp. They, in turn, attract a variety of waterfowl - gulls, storks and cormorants, who are not averse to refreshment here. 

   Tourists often make walks, during which you can feed swans and gulls, as well as boating, visiting picturesque beaches. In the cold season, the lake freezes for a short time, turning into a large ice rink, and then winter sports fans hurry here.

Plane / bus from Athens to Thessaloniki - from 50 € one way / about 30 €, 7 hours; 

then a train to the city of Kastoria - about 15 €, 4 hours. 

As an alternative - direct flight Athens - Kastoria - 80 € one way.
