Travel to Spain. LANZAROTE

The black beaches of Lanzarote, the most northern and easternmost in the Canary archipelago, are the result of violent volcanic activity. No wonder Lanzarote is called an island of fire-breathing mountains, or simply a fiery island - Isla del Fuego.

The island is named after the Genoese merchant Lancelotto Malocello, who visited here in 1312. Lanzarote is only 140 km from Africa and 1000 km from Europe. Like all the Canaries, it has a volcanic origin. But here the nature especially tried: the eruptions on the island occurred relatively recently, in the XVIII and XIX centuries, and their effects are visible to the naked eye.

As a result of eruptions, a third of the area is covered with ash and basalt. Lava formed the amazing beauty of the arch, grottoes and tunnels, as well as pyramids and cones of black color.
Black beaches are also a consequence of volcanic eruptions. Sand particles are tiny pieces of frozen lava, shattered by the ocean. Depending on how far the eruption site was, the sand on Lanzarote can be white, mixed or absolutely black.

Particularly beautiful is the salt lake near the village of El Golfo. The water in the lake is bright green, and green chrysolites glisten around in the black sand.
