This beach is known all over the world for its bright postcards and colorful guidebooks. "Navagio" is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Greece. It is located in the north-west Ionian island of Zakynthos, near the village of Anafotiria.
You can get here only by sea: the beach is surrounded on three sides by steep rocks, and you can admire this miracle of nature only from a height.
It is impossible to resist the charm of this place. Fine golden sand, high cliffs and sea water of unusual blue color - all this attracts many travelers, the beach is never deserted.
Although a few decades ago it was only a little-known bay, which bore the name of St. George. Everything changed in the early 1980s, when Panagiotis, a ship carrying contraband cargo to neighboring Italy, ran aground. The vessel was abandoned by the owners to rust directly on the beach, which has since been called "shipwreck beach" (in Greek Namyio), or "smugglers' beach".
And Panagiotis is a popular tourist destination and the only source of shade on the beach in the hot midday.
