Cirque de Mafate — a godsend for lovers of Hiking. There is absolutely no roads, so to reach this wonderful place you can just walk.
For those who are not confident in their abilities, offer helicopter rides, but inside the circus you still have to move on foot. Especially soft and warm climate is favorable.
Due to the almost complete lack of civilization, this picturesque area is preserved in its original form: dense forests, deep ravines, rapid rivers and low mountains with gentle slopes that are so comfortable to climb and enjoy the scenery.
In fact, the Cirque de Mafate is the Caldera of an extinct volcano, Piton-des-Neiges. The area of the circus a little more than 100 km2, and it occupies the second place in the list of the largest volcanic cirques. Along the perimeter it is surrounded by ramparts of ancient lava flows, and in some flat areas within it even built small villages.
