The desert in Europe is not a fantasy. In the south of Spain in the province of Almeria is the Tabernas desert, which covers an area of 280 km2. It is located in the basin and is surrounded by mountains, so the wet Mediterranean winds do not reach here.
Here it is very warm all year round, even in winter the temperature does not fall below 0 °C, but precipitation falls very little - about 24 mm per year.

For comparison, in some European cities this amount of moisture falls just a few summer days. And even the rare showers that reach Tabernas do not lead to its transformation and the awakening of vegetation.
Lifeless loess soils are not capable of retaining moisture, so it instantly evaporates under the sun, which shines here for at least 3000 hours per year. This was the main reason for using the desert as a testing ground for the use of solar energy.
In addition, because of the similarities of local landscapes with the Wild West, world-famous filmmakers often shoot Westerns here. In particular, there were shooting several episodes of the movie "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."
