"Gran Paradiso" is the oldest national Park of Italy.
Back in the mid XIX century Victor Emmanuel II, the future monarch of Italy, noted that the number of mountain goats in his hunting area has drastically reduced. He declared forest reserves and forbade them to hunt everyone but himself. In the early twentieth century, his grandson, also Victor Emmanuel, conveyed these lands to state ownership, but with the condition that their territory is national Park.
So in 1922 there was "Gran Paradiso".
